The least expensive Cupra Leon is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, producing 242bhp and 370Nm of torque for a claimed 0-62mph time of 6.4 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 155mph.

However, where the Volkswagen Golf GTI comes as conventional with a six-speed manual gearbox, the Cupra Leon is only available with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.
